Postdoctoral scholars Andrei Zakharov and Fabian Jan Schwarzendahl have arrived at UC Merced to work with the Beller and Dasbiswas Groups. Andrei comes to Merced from the Technion, where he studied a number of soft matter systems including nematic elastomers and smart textile materials. Fabian recently received his Ph.D. at the University of Göttingen for research on communities of microswimmers, such as motile algae and bacteria, at Göttingen’s Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization.
