MS Graduate 2011
Lanka DeSilva earned a BS in Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering from University of Alabama and a M.S. in Environmental Engineering from Washington State University under Dr. Beutel. Lanka’s graduate research focused on measuring wet and dry atmospheric deposition of mercury in rural versus urban areas of Washington State. Her work showed that while mercury deposition is generally higher in urban environments, it can also be relatively high in rural areas impacted by agricultural activity and widefires. Lanka is now an air quality consultant in the Pacific Northwest focused on air quality permitting and regulatory compliance, greenhouse gas emission analyses, emissions inventory development, and air quality and environmental noise mitigation. In the “better late than never” department, this fall Dr. Beutel and Lanka are planning to submit her M.S. thesis as a manuscript to a special edition of Atmosphere focused on atmospheric mercury monitoring. We hope to post the paper on this websute by the end of 2020!
