Assistant Teaching Professor at UC Merced
Dr. Emily Rónay Johnston earned her PhD in English Studies from Illinois State University. Her teaching and research focus on first-year writing as a critical space for cultivating student resilience. Emily has served as the associate director and a lecturer in the Dimensions of Culture Writing Program at the University of California, San Diego, where she mentored instructors in developing curriculum and assessment methods that teach resilience as a rhetorical tool: the writerly flexibility that emerges as student-writers adapt to adversity, reflect on their adaptation, and make strategic choices about how to language in the face of it. She currently is an assistant teaching professor of Writing Studies at the University of California at Merced.
