My teaching philosophy uses evidence-based pedagogy techniques to cultivate students’ sociological imagination. Evidence-based pedagogy techniques focus on creating an environment that optimizes students learning by providing routine and progressive build-up of knowledge. I use the following techniques in the classroom: scaffolding major projects into smaller assignments, deploying weekly low-risk assessments, maintaining a consistent class routine, and peer-to-peer learning. When deciding curriculum, I focus on course material relevant to our everyday lives and I work to expand traditional sociological canopies by including perspectives from historically marginalized groups. In the classroom, I use my creativity to design insightful discussion questions as well as engaging activities for students to apply course concepts. One of my teaching strengths is that I work to create an environment where students feel comfortable to discuss with myself and their peers. I do this by acknowledging every student and by explaining with empathy.
