Illness representations, treatment beliefs, and health outcomes in chronic pain: A meta-analysis: will identify and meta-analyze studies that report associations between illness representation constructs from the common sense model (e.g., control, timeline, identity, consequences, coherence, emotional representations) and treatment beliefs, and health-related outcomes among individuals with chronic pain (e.g., physical functioning, psychological/emotional functioning, disease state, social/role functioning).

Treatment beliefs and outcomes in chronic illnesses: A meta-analysis: will estimate the averaged effect of patients’ treatment beliefs (e.g., beliefs about medication, beliefs about treatment) on strategies used to cope with their illness, and illness-related outcomes across studies on patients with chronic illness. The effects are expected to be estimated using random effects meta-analyses of effect size data from studies testing relations among these variables in eligible samples.
